COSMOS discovers a wealth of resources and a capital thriving on its energetic, green-driven and friendly reputation, not to mention a myriad of career opportunities. |
| Science and innovation in South Australia | While the pleasant streets of Adelaide are good for a quiet stroll, the same can't be said of South Australian science. The plethora of research being carried out in this unassuming state packs a punch far above its weight in terms of population - South Australia has 1.65 million people, less than a third of Sydney's population - and yet is the top state in defence capabilities and a heavyweight player in mining and industry. And that's good news for those who live there: science and engineering offer a gamut of employment opportunities and this is set to grow. "Science and engineering offer a gamut of employment opportunities and this is set to grow." It's not just primary resources. Although rich in mineral wealth, intellectual wealth rates highly, with opportunities in engineering, IT and astronomy. The COSMOS special feature on science in South Australia, published in the Dec/Jan issue, focusses in on food science, environment, mining and defence and also offers a snapshot of the state looking at developments in the green industry, predicting and understanding climate, agriculture, aquaculture and geothermal energy. It was surprising to find out how much is going on and I look forward to keeping up to date with the breaking news as South Australian science continues to advance. You can read all about in our special South Australia: In Focus feature in the December/January issue of COSMOS, or download it here. Heather Catchpole Deputy Editor, COSMOS www.cosmosmagazine.com |
